The Miami Dolphins are still in the playoff hunt, but have questions to answer for the future as they look ahead at the 2019 NFL Draft.

Purgatory is one of many terms to describe the current state of the Miami Dolphins franchise. From their quarterback play to the head coach and all the way to the front office. When you look around the NFL, there’s arguably no franchise more average than the Dolphins. Unfortunately, Dolphins fans have dealt with the epitome of mediocrity for decades. Even under a new regime, led by head coach Adam Gase, the Dolphins have produced an average team.

Of course, there’s the exception. In 2016, Gase rode a breakout performance from Jay Ajayi to the playoffs. Since that magical season, Gase hasn’t been the innovative coach fans expected him to be. At the halfway point of the 2018 NFL season, Gase’s record is a perfectly average 20-20.

This season, the Dolphins are once again bordering on not being bad enough to pick in the top five of the 2019 NFL Draft and like not quite good enough to make the playoffs. This means vice president of player personnel Mike Tannenbaum and general manager Chris Grier will have to work with a pick in the middle of the draft.

Gase and his staff need players to help lift them past mediocrity. We’ll explore what the Miamis Dolphins can do to help their franchise in the 2019 NFL Draft as we execute an early three-round mock draft for the Fins. These picks are obviously subject to change as this is happening in the middle of November, but it will give a good blueprint as to where this team needs to go moving forward.
