Running Backs

Theo Riddick vs. Carolina

2018 Stats: 8 attempts, 30 yards, 36 receptions, 234 yards
ESPN Ownership: 19.5 percent

Full disclosure: Theo Riddick has always had a place in my heart. There’s just something about a strict PPR back that satisfies the fantasy football player within. 2018 has seen a resurgence with the Lions backfield thanks to fellow running back Kerryon Johnson, yet Riddick has successfully reclaimed a role with Detroit’s passing attack due to the departure of receiver Golden Tate.

Despite missing two weeks due to injury, Riddick has seen more targets than Johnson thus far, leading 45-37 in the respective category, according to FantasyPros.com. Now healthy again, Riddick has seen back to back double-digit scoring weeks. Detroit plays host to the Panthers in what figures to be a potentially high-scoring game, playing into the hands of Riddick’s pass catching abilities. Johnson remains the team’s option on the ground, but passing downs are owned by Riddick. Plug him in your lineup if you’re a PPR team needing an upgrade.

Mike Davis vs. Green Bay

2018 Stats: 78 attempts, 346 yards, 3 TD, 21 receptions, 110 yards, 1 TD
ESPN Ownership: 45.7 percent

I was hesitant to jump on the Mike Davis bandwagon due to Seattle’s messy backfield situation, yet Davis has emerged as the potential lead back moving forward despite the expected return of Chris Carson on Thursday night. Pete Carroll tends to ride the hot hand in the backfield, and he should look no further than Davis’ production the previous two weeks.

Davis will look to improve on back to back 17-point performances against two impressive defensive fronts in the Chargers and Rams. Davis is a viable option in the passing attack as much as he is on the ground, adding another dimension for fantasy owners to love. Green Bay’s secondary has limited opposing passing attacks in 2018, which may dictate the Seahawks to keep movement via running the football. Davis has shown he’s capable of making plays when given the ball, and Thursday should be no exception.
