3. Dirk Koetter, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Coming into the 2018 season, I had a feeling the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wouldn’t be any good. Then, somehow, they won their first two games against contenders, tricking me into believing they were legit. Now, after dropping to 3-6 this past weekend, we’ve officially seen this franchise’s true colors.

The crazy part is that I still think they could be a decent team — at least, better than their current record. It almost seems as though it’s the coaching that is keeping this team from reaching its full potential. Just look at the way the Buccaneers have fallen apart at times this season, or crumbled in the clutch during close games.

The stats also tell an interesting story.

Somehow, Tampa Bay currently leads the league in offensive yards per game. Their passing attack is No. 1 by a wide margin, topping the No. 2 team by over 40 yards per game. And yet, they’ve managed only three wins on the year. Here’s a prime example of the ineffective stat sheet stuffing: in Week 10, the Buccaneers racked up 501 total offensive yards and scored three points.

You can’t tell me that doesn’t have something to do with the coaching (and Ryan Fitzpatrick’s proneness to turnovers). He turned Jameis Winston into an incompetent quarterback, and has the Tampa Bay defense doing close to nothing to keep opponents out of the end zone.

Things were moving in the right direction after Koetter’s first season. Now, it looks like the Buccaneers will soon be in the market for a new head coach.
