Randall Cobb got mad at the FOX announcers for disrespecting Davante Adams, but who is right about the Green Bay Packers wide receiver and his status?

There’s always debates going on around the NFL about which players are the best at their respective position. This season, a new player is being introduced to such a debate as Green Bay Packers receiver Davante Adams is starting to gain traction as one of the best in the business.

However, it seems not everyone is sold on this. In fact, FOX announcers Troy Aikman and Joe Buck discussed it during the Packers Thursday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks, and they seemed to be of the impression that Adams shouldn’t be mentioned among the best just yet.

Their main contention was that Adams has yet to hit the 1,000-yard mark as a receiver. That wasn’t enough to convince Adam’s teammate Randall Cobb.

He was at home watching the game as he recovers from an injury and had enough of the talking heads saying his teammate wasn’t elite — and let it be known via Twitter.

So the question to ask is this — is Davante Adams elite? The answer is simple, yes he is.

While there’s some merit to the fact he doesn’t have 1,000 yards in a season yet, this is the first year that the 26-year old wideout is the No. 1 target. And after 10 games, he has 72 receptions for 953 yards and nine touchdowns. With three games remaining, he’s three receptions from his career high, 44 yards from his yardage record, and just three touchdowns from his personal best of 12 in 2016.

On top of all the numbers, Adams also draws the respect of his opponents and even when other threats like Cobb are out injured, he can’t be guarded.

There’s still question about whether or not Adams is top-five, but that’s only because there are some amazing receivers out there right now. Players like Julio Jones, Adam Thielen, Michael Thomas, DeAndre Hopkins, and Odell Beckham, Jr. are still among the best in the game.

However, throwing Adams in the mix with those guys this season isn’t crazy — and his arrow is still pointing up as he enters his prime. Adams is one of the best in the game and deserves our respect. And if anyone doesn’t want to give him that respect, Randall Cobb won’t hesitate to call you out.
