5. San Francisco 49ers: Jonah Williams, OT, Alabama

It was mentioned earlier that the New York Giants lost in Week 10 and still were No. 2 in this mock since we use our Power Rankings to determine the order. That could also mean the San Francisco 49ers are drafting slightly higher than No. 5. Even if that’s the case, just like the Giants, their need stays the same and this player could be their target no matter where they are.

The 49ers have their quarterback of the future in Jimmy Garoppolo. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL early in the season and has been watching his team struggle. After a week of hope from Nick Mullens, they fell back to earth and are looking forward to the future.

In an effort to make that future more bright, San Francisco drafts Jonah Williams out of Alabama. While it’s true they used a top-10 pick on a tackle last season, Mike McGlinchey plays on the right side and it’s not likely he will move to the blindside.

Williams can handle that role and could replace the veteran Joe Staley, who is 34 years of age. And considering the investment they made in their quarterback, it makes a lot of sense to put two elite blockers on either side of Garoppolo.
