Round 1: Josh Allen, OLB, Kentucky

Along the defensive line, Leonard Williams has star potential at the five-technique. Behind him are two dominant inside linebackers, Avery Williamson and Darron Lee. At outside linebacker, Jordan Jenkins has shown flashes, including a two-sack game against the Dolphins. However, Jenkins can’t do it alone, nor has he been consistent. In order for the Jets’ defense to take that next step, they need help on the edge.

Kentucky Wildcats outside linebacker Josh Allen is an ideal fit. During his short tenure with the Arizona Cardinals, Todd Bowles had a similar player in Chandler Jones. Allen’s athleticism is overwhelming for offensive tackles.

The 6-5, 260-pound sack machine is a fantastic athlete. His straight-line speed and initial step allow him to make plays in the backfield. He currently has 17.5 tackles for loss in 2018. Moreover, his athleticism is reflected in his 13 sacks. He’s a physical specimen who’ll dominate the Combine like he dominates tackles.

Allen’s length and frame makes him an ideal fit in a 3-4 defense. With the right coaching, he can become more effective against the run. Early on, however, he and Jenkins can pin their ears back and generate the pass rush that Gang Green’s defense has been lacking.
