Cleveland Browns: Bye week 3-round 2019 NFL Mock Draft
Round 3, Pick 1: Collin Johnson, WR, Texas
The Texas Longhorns have seen a serious revival this season under head coach Tom Herman, and Collin Johnson is a big part of their offense rounding into form. Johnson has become quarterback Sam Ehlinger’s favorite target this season, and at a legitimate 6-5, it’s easy to see why.
Coincidentally, the Browns’ biggest offensive need happens to be a tall, game-breaking wide receiver. Johnson’s catch radius is nothing short of amazing, and with Baker Mayfield’s accuracy and ball placement, he could be a serious weapon for the Browns going forward.
Johnson needs to put a bit of weight on his frame, but if he tests well at the NFL Combine, he could shoot up draft boards faster than you can say “Texas is back.” The Browns need a big receiver, and in the third round, Johnson might just be that guy.
Round 3, Pick 2: David Montgomery, RB, Iowa State
The Browns already have their franchise running back in Nick Chubb, and the rookie from Georgia has shown both power and finesse in his young career. But if the Browns really want to run the ball right down the AFC North’s throat, Iowa State’s David Montgomery is the best choice.
Montgomery just does not go down, and has a knack for running defenders over on his way to the endzone. Montgomery has nearly 800 yards and seven touchdowns on the season for the Cyclones, but his production doesn’t nearly match how aggressive he is on the field.
Nick Chubb and David Montgomery would be a duo to be feared, and defenses around the NFL would certainly be feeling their presence even after the game was over. This draft should be all about getting help for Baker Mayfield, and the Browns accomplish that with Collin Johnson and David Montgomery.
