Chicago Bears 23, Detroit Lions 16

The Lions were once again hosting on Thanksgiving Day and welcomed Matt Nagy’s Chicago Bears to the Motor City. Back in Week 10 in the Windy City, Matt Patricia’s club was knocked off by the NFC North leaders, 34-22. On Thursday, Detroit would be without rookie running back Kerryon Johnson.

But the Bears would be without ailing quarterback Mitch Trubisky. Hence, Chase Daniel would be making his first start since taking the field for Andy Reid’s Chiefs in 2014. Things didn’t start out well for Nagy’s club fell behind 7-0 after Lions’ running back LeGarrette Blount scored on a four-year touchdown run in the first quarter.

But the team would respond after a sluggish start and eventually a rusty Daniel found his groove. He overcame four sacks and finished the afternoon connecting on 27 of his 37 throws for 230 yards and two scores. Chicago eventually took a 16-13 lead early in fourth quarter on Daniel’s 14-yard touchdown toss to running back Tarik Cohen.

Detroit would respond to tie the score and the team was driving late when Bears’ safety Eddie Jackson stepped in front of a Matthew Stafford pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown. Late in the game, the Lions drove deep into Chicago territory. But Stafford would be denied again and airmailed a pass in the end zone that wound up in the hands of Bears’ cornerback Kyle Fuller.

Make it five-straight wins and three consecutive divisional victories for Nagy and company.
