Chicago Bears: Latest win breaks recent team trends
The Chicago Bears’ win over the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving broke several bad trends. They are now ready to have the rest of the nation see this new-look team.
It feels like it’s been a long time since the Chicago Bears were a relevant team. The last time they made the playoffs was in 2010. It was 2006 when they last made it to the Super Bowl, and 1985 when they actually won it.
Wait, looking at it now, it doesn’t just feel like it’s been a long time — it has been a long time.
This version of the Chicago Bears wants to end all of that. They beat the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving and now things feel different. It seems that the rest of the NFL is starting to take notice. We see more stories about them now. FOX CBS, ESPN (well some of them), and NFL.com talk about them winning games now instead of how other teams will use them as a stepping stone.
Gone are the talks about the Bears going 5-11, 6-10, or 7-9. There is even talk about how they match up against the two hottest teams in the NFL — the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles Rams. I’m not sure about the Saints but we’ll see in a couple of weeks how they match up with the Rams.
In order to change the national perception of the Bears, they needed to buck some bad recent trends. They haven’t shown any reason (before this season) for anyone to pay attention to them. It’s noticeable when you see all the Mitchell Trubisky bashing, even though he leads an offense that ranked 6th in scoring and 10th in passing touchdowns. For them to get respect they had to earn it.
So far, that’s exactly what they’re doing. Speaking of those trends, the Bears are bucking them.
