The Bears have an offense that can compete now

The Chicago Bears have historically been a run-heavy team. Passing was just to help open up the running game. Of course, part of the reason for that is the fact the Bears have had a plethora of running backs who could shoulder the offense. Having players like Gale Sayers, Walter Payton, Neal Anderson (very underrated because he had the ghost of Payton to compete with) and Matt Forte.

Things are different now, however. After using a pedestrian offense under former head coach John Fox, the Bears have Nagy’s high-powered offense. This offense depends on passing. Now, the running game opens up the passing game. Instead of having the running game to squeeze out a few points and depending on a stout defense to hold the opposition down week after week.

This offense now works in concert with the defense. The defense can have an off day and the team can still win. This offense puts up points. Nagy has passing plays upon passing plays. We see how the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense is blowing up. It’s the same system Nagy runs in Chicago, minus the number of years in place.

Yes, there is a question about the running game now. The Bears still have a good running back in Jordan Howard. The problem is that he’s in the mold of what the old Bears needed. He is a bruiser who works better the more he runs the ball. This offense isn’t set up for that. This is something that cannot be addressed until the offseason. Until then, though, let’s enjoy all the points this new-look offense puts up every week.
