2. New York Giants: Saquon Barkley, RB

Here’s another move that was met with some skepticism as the New York Giants took Penn State running back Saquon Barkley second overall. There was no debate about his talent, as Barkley wasn’t just the consensus No. 1 running back, but he was also considered the best overall talent by many who studied the draft.

Even so, there was question about whether or not the Giants should have gone running back here as they really needed a new quarterback. With Eli Manning coming off one of his least productive seasons as a pro, the Giants were in a great position to find their next franchise quarterback.

They obviously didn’t agree and selected Barkley. Their belief seemed to be that Barkley could take some pressure off Manning, while also helping Odell Beckham Jr. who had been the main offensive piece that defenses zeroed in on. So far, it hasn’t been a success in terms of wins and losses. That doesn’t mean Barkley has been a bad pick though.

After 10 games, the rookie has 728 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns. He’s also been incredible in the passing game as he’s pulled in 64 receptions for another 540 yards and three touchdowns. You can ask all day long about whether or not they should have gone quarterback, but Barkley has done what was expected of him and then some.

Grade: A+
