Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers: 3 Bold predictions for Week 12
By Samuel Teets
The Seattle Seahawks need to defeat the Carolina Panthers to jump ahead in the Wild Card race.
While the Seattle Seahawks are still technically in the hunt for a wild card spot, they will have to almost run the table to have a shot at a wild card. And the first step, starting this week, is to beat the Carolina Panthers.
This game is huge and will decide the rest of the Seahawks season. The Panthers are currently in the playoffs, and if the season ended today they would hold a wild card. If Seattle is going to assert its postseason potential, the team has to beat Carolina and even up their records at 6-5. A win wouldn’t just tie Seattle with Carolina, it would put them momentarily ahead of the Minnesota Vikings, who are 5-4-1 and hold the other wild card spot.
The Seahawks would also be tied with the Washington Redskins, who are the first team out of the playoffs at the moment.
Seahawks will score over 30 points
The Seahawks have only scored more than 30 points twice this season. Both times happened against the Los Angeles Rams. But, in a critical game with the season on the line, I believe Russell Wilson and the offense will come to life.
Wilson hasn’t repeated the MVP caliber season he had last year, but he’s only thrown two interceptions since Week 3 and currently has a career high quarterback rating of 110.2. Basically, he’s still playing really good football, the scoring numbers just aren’t there — which is weird considering he’s on pace to throw 36 touchdowns this season, two more than last year.
His completion percentage is up too, rising from 61.3 to 66.2. The biggest issue is his passing yards per game total has dropped by almost 30 yards. On top of that the explosive games are missing. Last season he threw for 250 passing yards seven times. He’s only done that once this season, back in Week 1.
But it’s time for that to change. The running game is finally working, Tyler Lockett is having a breakout season, and the defense is improving. It’s time for the face of the franchise to pull it all together for a resounding, explosive performance that will put Seattle in position for a Wild Card berth.
