Stephen Jones, the director of player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys, said tight end could be a need. Here are some early targets to consider ahead of 2019 NFL free agency

After seeing Jason Witten retire during draft week, the Dallas Cowboys found themselves in a very unfamiliar spot — without a trusted starter at the position. While it’s true that Geoff Swaim has played well when healthy, he’s not the same all-around threat Witten was in his prime.

Entering free agency in 2019, Swaim could very well rejoin Dallas. And he would be a nice piece of their offense as a second tight end rather than the starter. And apparently, those in charge understand this as well.

Stephen Jones, the director of player personnel for the Cowboys, said that there are two needs they need to address this coming offseason and pointed out both tight end and safety.

In 2018, the Cowboys have done a good job self-scouting. After they thought they could enter the year without a legit No. 1 receiver, they were quick to admit this was an error. Dallas sent a first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders in exchange for Amari Cooper, and they’ve gone 4-1 since making that trade.

Now, they see, to again be willing to look to add someone who can improve their team and free agency may be an option with them already trading away their first choice in the 2019 NFL Draft.

With that being said, we identify five players set to become free agents in 2019 that Dallas should, at a minimum, kick the tires on
