Minnesota Vikings: Players who deserve Pro Bowl nod
By Joe Kipp
The Minnesota Vikings have a few players destined for the Pro Bowl. Which players should, could, and might make it to the NFL’s all-star game?
The Minnesota Vikings are having a sub-par year compared to preseason expectations, but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been spectacular individual performances over the course of this season.
Because of that, the Vikings have several players worthy of a Pro Bowl nod – although players will likely not want to participate in it. After all, players on teams who reach the Super Bowl are exempt from participating in the NFL’s annual all-star game in order to prepare for the big game.
In recent years, we’ve also seen players decline a Pro Bowl invite in an attempt to avoid an injury in what’s perceived as a seemingly meaningless game. High-profile players often forgo their invite, which opens up the opportunity for other players who didn’t get enough votes but would be next in line for a nomination (these are known as Pro Bowl alternates). Players who decline an invite still get the Pro Bowl nod on their resume, however.
The Pro Bowl selection process consists of three separate ballots, with votes being cast by coaches, the players themselves, and even fans. Each group’s ballot counts for one-third of the overall vote. As a Vikings fan, you can vote here for your favorite players on the NFL’s official Pro Bowl ballot.
The Vikings had seven players named to the Pro Bowl in 2017, including Harrison Smith, Xavier Rhodes, Anthony Barr, Linval Joseph, Everson Griffen, Kyle Rudolph, and Adam Thielen. Minnesota is bound to have a few repeats this year, but a few others are looking to make their first appearance.
As for which players are worthy of being nominated, the Vikings have several deserving candidates. Here are the players who should and could make the 2019 Pro Bowl.
