1. New York Jets: Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State

After recording 8.5 sacks as a sophomore, all eyes were on Nick Bosa heading into 2018. He didn’t disappoint as he had 14 tackles and four sacks in just his first three games of the season. A core muscle injury ended his third gam prematurely and then Bosa decided to sit out the remainder of the year.

For years there have been discussions about star athletes forgoing their final season altogether and preparing for the draft. Bosa’s injury was an exact reason why that’s even discussed. Another reason it’s brought up is the injury suffered by Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith. He’s doing fine in Dallas now, but fell to Round 2 and missed all of 2016 while recovering from a serious knee injury.

Bosa’s injury wasn’t as serious, but he decided it was best to protect his future and enter this coming draft completely healthy. Not only will he do that, but he’s likely going to blow people away at the Scouting Combine. That leads to the New York Jets taking him with the No. 1 overall pick.

While current head coach Todd Bowles likes to attack quarterbacks with his scheme rather than a premium edge rusher, it’s likely he won’t be around by the time the draft begins. That means the new regime lands a stud to build the defense around.
