San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks: 3 Bold predictions for Week 13
By Samuel Teets
Seahawks will hold 49ers to one sack
Ordinarily, this wouldn’t be much of a bold prediction. The 49ers defense is averaging just over two sacks per game with just 26 on the season. However, the Seahawks offensive line cannot pass block. Wilson has been sacked 34 times through 11 games. They’re on pace to let their quarterback get sacked 49 times this year. 49! That would be the most times Wilson has ever been sacked in a season, and he’s had bad offensive lines since he entered the league.
As for who will be getting the sacks, I’ve already mentioned Buckner and Armstead, but the team also has Cassius Marsh, who’s been a solid contributor. Those three are the team’s best pass rushers and they’re certainly not the flashiest group, but remember who they’re facing. It’ll be interesting to see how the battle in the trenches goes.
With Wilson seemingly holding the ball longer this year and effectively scrambling less, the Seahawks have been giving up sacks left and right. However, the offensive line held the Carolina Panthers to just two sacks last week. Even though the 49ers pass rush is technically better than the Panthers, I still think the Seahawks have a chance to hold them to one sack.
I know two of these predictions were in favor of the 49ers, but there is no doubt in my mind that the Seahawks will win. While they tend to play up or, in this case, down to the levels of their opponents, I don’t see any way for Seattle to lose to this bad of a team this late in the season. The team is just too good to do that. That being said, I still want the game to be interesting, so I hope the 49ers are able to accomplish something this weekend.
