The Green Bay Packers fired head coach Mike McCarthy after Week 13, but who could be the man to replace him on the sidelines at Lambeau Field?

The writing had been on the wall for now-former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy for some time. With the way that his team had performed this season amidst high expectations, it appeared as if his time with the team was coming to a close. And that all came to a head in Week 13 as the Packers suffered an embarrassing loss to the Arizona Cardinals, moving Green Bay to 4-7-1 on the season.

Sunday’s loss to the Cards was the final straw for the Packers organization with McCarthy as the long-time head coach was fired. That this move came midseason is certainly a shock, but that it happened is not.

Though McCarthy has certainly brought plenty of success to the Packers with Aaron Rodgers under his watch, recent years have been a bit more tumultuous. It has appeared as if, if for no either reason than to freshen things up, that Green Bay has been in need of a change in terms of how they’ve been being coached.

Now, with McCarthy out, the Packers have the chance to get that, trying to find the man that will likely guide Rodgers into the sunset of his career. Here are five possible candidates to take up that mantle.

5. John DeFilippo, Offensive Coordinator, Minnesota Vikings

This would certainly be an NFC North coup if the Packers were able to pull it off, but one that would be worthwhile. Coming into this year, there were high hopes for the Vikings offense with the arrival of both Kirk Cousins and John DeFilippo. For the most part, those expectations have not fully been met. But, in truth, that the offense has flashed as well as it has is a testament to DeFilippo given the state of Minnesota’s offensive line.

It was clear in Philadelphia with his work with Carson Wentz and Nick Foles and now with his work in Minnesota with Cousins that DeFilippo is a fantastic offensive mind. Though Rodgers doesn’t need much development at this point in his career, seeing what the current Vikings offensive coordinator could orchestrate with the talent that Green Bay has on offense would be a sight to behold.
