The 2018 Mr. Irrelevant is playing for the Washington Redskins, but Trey Quinn isn’t just on the field, he’s looking like a legitimate weapon.

When the Washington Redskins took Trey Quinn with the last pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, he was expected to be more than just another Mr. Irrelevant. Immediately, fans and analysts alike thought he could actually be a solid contributor to the team. An injury in the first week of the season halted his momentum, however.

He’s finally back now, though, making his return in week 11. In his last two games, Quinn has looked ready for slot receiver life in the NFL. With Jamison Crowder out, Quinn’s seen plenty of time on the field. In that time, he’s reeled in nine catches on 10 targets for 75 yards and a touchdown.

Is Quinn ready to take the next step though and become a weapon from the slot?

For the time-being, that may be put on hold. Quinn is listed as questionable for the Redskins’ Monday night matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 13. So is Crowder. If both play, Crowder will probably take up the heavy majority of the snaps. At the same time though, Quinn does have the advantage with Colt McCoy. McCoy clearly likes Quinn as a target, as he’s thrown to him eight times in less than 1.5 games.

For the immediate future, that spells success for Quinn. However, McCoy isn’t the Redskins long-term option at quarterback. As a backup he’s a great talent, but they won’t be rolling into next season with him as their No. 1. So Quinn will need more than just a good rapport with his current quarterback to cement his potential stardom.

Now, the thing with Quinn is, he’s very similar to Crowder in the fact that he’s a fantastic route runner with shifty moves. He not only has the ability to get open, but can be very dangerous after the catch.

With that skill-set, Quinn can definitely be a mainstay in the offense. He’s also shown over the last two games that he can indeed perform in actual games.  Quinn’s immediate future with the Washington Redskins looks great as he’s been featured heavily in the offense and Colt McCoy seems comfortable with him.

This will only help him get better, and cement his role in the offense. That should lead to a clear cut spot on the roster for Quinn in the future, as he continues to blossom.
