Round 4: Delvon Randall, S, Temple

With the Cowboys waiting for a safety, they end up not getting a perfect product. That’s fine because their defense has been great with Xavier Woods and Jeff Heath starting — with Woods blossoming into a real player.

They also have the ability to hit free agency, and while they may not overpay for an Earl Thomas, they could land a quality player who can fight for a starting spot. Even so, they add some depth with Delvon Randall out of Temple.

More from Dallas Cowboys

He has excellent size and strength but needs some work with his tackling. At times he takes bad angles, but that’s correctable with coaching. He does show a nose for the ball, which Dallas can use. In the past three seasons, he has 11 interceptions.

This season, the Cowboys have seen some hugs strides made in their secondary. While there have been players stepping up, a lot of praise goes to Kris Richard. The new defensive backs coach came in and made some big changes — like putting Byron Jones at cornerback where he has flourished.

There’s no reason to think Richard won’t get the most out of Randall considering how he has pushed the best out of so many players already.
