NFL Draft: 30 worst first-round picks of the 21st century
By Randy Gurzi
There was some head scratching going on when the Miami Dolphins moved up in the 2013 NFL Draft for Dion Jordan. It wasn’t that he was a bad player while with the Oregon Ducks by any means, but it just felt like a stretch to take him at No. 3 overall.
For Jordan, it was a good feeling to go so high. He was the highest Duck drafted since Joey Harrington went No. 3 back in 2002. Now, they get to go back-to-back again as bad picks here — which neither saw coming.
Jordan showed flashes of potential, but he was on a team that hardly saw the field on defense, as they were an offensive-heavy college program. He was also not a full-time player for the Ducks and had just five sacks his senior season.
Even so, the Dolphins made the move and though Jordan was set to be their edge rusher of the future. That never happened, as he was suspended to start the second season of his career due to being in violation of the substance abuse policy.
After managing to play in just 10 games that season, Jordan was suspended for all of 2015 by the league for more problems with the substance abuse policy.
He never saw the field in 2016 either and after two years out of the NFL, he was released in 2017. Jordan landed with the Seattle Seahawks that season and still plays for them.
He recorded four sacks in five games that season, which gave the Seahawks hope they found something special. So far in 2018, that hasn’t been the case, as Jordan is once again quiet on the field.
