NFL Draft: 30 worst first-round picks of the 21st century
By Randy Gurzi
Justin Blackmon was a great college player while at Oklahoma State, but a terrible pro for the Jacksonville Jaguars. As bad of a pick he was for the Jaguars, even worse was the ridiculous remark made by Warren Moon, who tore another Oklahoma State product in Dez Bryant down to build Blackmon up.
"“He’s a beast, isn’t he? He’s like Dez Bryant with all of his brain cells,” Moon told KIRO-AM 710 in Seattle back in 2012 according to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “He’s a guy that has all those skills that Dez Bryant has but he’s not the knucklehead that Dez Bryant has turned out to be with Dallas. And a much better route runner than Dez Bryant is, but a very tremendous talent.”"
To show how bad Moon’s assessment was, Bryant finished his time with the Dallas Cowboys as one of their most decorated receivers of all-time. Many Cowboys fans were furious when they let him go.
He was set to play still this season, but a torn Achilles ended his shot with the New Orleans Saints. In short, Bryant was a great player and his career is still going.
As for Blackmon, he played a total of 20 games and had more suspensions than years played. He struggled with substance abuse and alcohol during his career. Because of that, he never came close to reaching his immense potential. He also proved that Moon doesn’t need to be a character evaluator for any team anytime soon.
