Round 5 (Via JAX): Stanley Morgan Jr, WR, Nebraska – 6-1, 200 lbs. (Listed)

  • 70 receptions for 1,004 yards (33.8 percent) and 7 touchdowns (36.8 percent) 2018.

With the depth of the receiver class, guys will inevitably slip and while it’s strange to see a wide receiver from Nebraska, Morgan more than warrants it. He’s one of the more exciting receivers specifically as it relates to the Browns because of his ability to stretch the field as well as how dangerous he is after the catch.

Morgan displays strong hands and can fight for the ball in the air, making a significant number of spectacular catches. He is deadly when he gets behind opponents and tracks the ball really well on the move, always a threat to create instant offense.

One of the areas where Morgan looks like he needs to continue to improve is beating press. Give him a free release and he’s proven to be deadly, but he needs to keep developing to beat press as he will see more of them at the next level. Early in his NFL career, it might be best to essentially hide him, be it coming from off the line of scrimmage or from motion, but it’s something that has to come with time.

Morgan might be a player that helps himself in the draft process quite a bit, but he looks like an ideal fit for Baker Mayfield. He is someone who can operate at every level of the field, understands how to create space, make strong cuts and just finds a way to make plays. He hasn’t played a game without a catch in the past three years and while he might not be a featured player in the Browns offense, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he finds ways to make an impact and gains the trust of his quarterback and the coaching staff.
