New York Jets 2019 NFL Draft Profile: Nick Bosa, Ohio State
Nick Bosa is at the top of most 2019 NFL Draft boards. Could the New York Jets land the best player in the draft this year, one who fits a need?
As it stands, the New York Jets head into Week 14 at 3-9 and sitting with the third pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. It would be a shock if Nick Bosa were to fall to No. 3, but as Connor Hughes of The Athletic wrote, the Jets have a path to the No. 1 overall pick. Of course, at that spot, they’d have their pick of the litter or be able to trade down for a boatload of picks.
Imagine if the Jets were to draft Ohio State edge rusher Nick Bosa instead of trading down. That would mean, for the second straight draft, they would get the best player at a position of need.
They’d have their quarterback of the future and pass rusher of the future locked up for at least the next five seasons with them likely to use the fifth year option on Darnold and possibly a franchise tag if he turns out to be the player many believe him to be.
What are would the Jets getting in Bosa? They’d finally be getting the guy to replace John Abraham. With Darron Lee emerging as a player to invest in for the future this season, they’d finally have the guy who can rush the passer and set the edge to funnel the runs inside.
Bosa has an explosive first step and uses his hands well. He has all the pass rush moves in his arsenal and will defeat many of the offensive tackles that try to get in his way. With Lee and Avery Williamson roaming in the middle, his edge setting prowess will only set the table for limiting the opponent’s ability to run.
Bosa is versatile enough to be moved inside and outside. A move inside would give him an athletic advantage against most NFL guards. Expect Bosa to win Defensive Rookie of the Year, and even challenge for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He’s that good, and the Jets can get him it would be a great building block for the future.
