Jacksonville Jaguars: Is there any pride left to play for?
By Larry Brake
The Jacksonville Jaguars will finish the 2018 season with a losing record. They have three games left to play, but is there any pride left to play for?
How do you play, following the 2017 season and the month of September 2018, if you are the Jacksonville Jaguars? After all, everyone saw the Jaguars as a defensive powerhouse that could carry the offense. After the debacle against Tennessee in Week 14, is there any pride left to play for?
Derrick Henry had a career game running the ball against the vaunted Jaguars defense. He had four rushing touchdowns of three, 99, 16, and 54 yards. By the way, he had 238 rushing yards in the Titans win.
To their credit, the Jaguars defense rose up to keep Henry out of the end zone for his fifth touchdown of the night. Don’t you wish that they had tackled him on the 99-yarder with the same intensity as they did on that final attempt? It looked like Henry played against air on that long run.
Perhaps the bigger question concerns the offense. Why is the quarterback sneak on the goal line never an option? Most of all, how does this team score points going forward?
The Washington Redskins are next on the schedule. This is the season’s home finale for 2018. Are you wondering how full the stadium will be? Expect the die hard Jaguars fans to be in the stands. Jacksonville should dedicate this last home game to the fans. Remember how loud they were in September, especially in Week 2 against New England? In the 6-0 shutout of Indianapolis, the fans were rocking’ and rollin’ still.
This has been a disappointing season after having high expectations throughout the offseason. If the Jaguars have thoughts of going through the motions, just look towards the North end zone. You will see a bunch of passionate supporters who love this team and never quit on them.
Is there any pride left to play for? Yes there is, the pride of Duval ringing from the stands. “Duuuuvvvallll” echoes throughout the stadium and the pride of the Jaguars.
