Carolina Panthers: C.J. Anderson

In years past, there was a two-headed monster in the backfield for the Carolina Panthers which consisted of the speedy DeAngelo Williams and the more physical Jonathan Stewart. While each was more than capable of carrying the load on their own, the way they each had their own strength made them impossible to defend.

In 2017, they added Christian McCaffrey and paired him with Stewart and it formed a similar dynamic in the backfield. However, Stewart was on the decline and McCaffrey was a rookie so there was hope that they could be even better this season as McCaffrey learned the league and Stewart was replaced with a much younger C.J. Anderson.

Fresh off his first ever 1,000-yard season with the Denver Broncos, Anderson headed to Carolina and was going to be the bruiser to McCaffrey’s shifty. That never happened as Anderson lasted just nine games with the team before being released. While with the Panthers, he had just 104 yards on 24 carries as McCaffrey carried the entire load.

Anderson is now with the Oakland Raiders and has a shot to prove he still has something in the tank. He just never was able to do so with Carolina.
