Chicago Bears: Allen Robinson

There were several big-name pass catchers who changed teams this offseason and one team went out of their way to land several of the available players. After watching rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky battle inconsistencies as a rookie, the Chicago Bears brought in a new offensive-minded coach in Matt Nagy.

They also brought in some weapons to help Trubisky take that all-important next step. Their biggest fish was Allen Robinson, the former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver who missed all but one game last season due to a torn ACL.

They also landed former Atlanta Falcons receiver Taylor Gabriel to give them a deep threat opposite Robinson. That wasn’t the end of their spending though as former Philadelphia Eagles tight end Trey Burton was also picked up to provide Trubisky a solid option in the middle of the field.

So far, Burton and Gabriel have done what they were brought over for. They’ve also both outperformed the high-priced Robinson who has yet to recapture the magic he had in 2015. That season he had 1,400 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns. He’s looked more like the player we saw in 2016 where he had 883 yards and six touchdowns.

While those aren’t necessarily bad numbers, Robinson signed a contract worth $42 million over three seasons. That kind of money suggests he should be performing at a much higher rate than he has.
