The Kansas City Chiefs fall short to the Los Angeles Chargers in a Thursday night showdown. Let’s get into the big takeaways from the loss in Week 15.

The Kansas City Chiefs came into Week 15 after handing a loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs appeared to be picking up the pace for the rest of the season and have no plans on slowing down, and that showed as they jumped out to a first-half lead.

Patrick Mahomes led his team early with a pass to Demarcus Robinson in the beginning of the first half to score a touchdown for the Chiefs, following that up with a 11-yard touchdown pass to running back Damien Williams.

Entering into the second half, Chiefs kept up the momentum, leading 21-14. The Chargers were hungry for a comeback in the final quarter, however. Right on the tail of the Chiefs, the Chargers found themselves down just 28-21 in the final eight seconds of the game.

In that big moment, Philip Rivers put the Chargers out front with a touchdown and two-point conversion, which gave Los Angeles the big AFC West. Now both teams are tied with a 11-3 record, sitting tied atop the division.

Following the loss for Kansas City, let’s look at three takeaways for this Chiefs team.

Chiefs put the Pressure on Rivers

At the start of the game, the Chiefs defense came up big. A deep throw by Rivers early on was intercepted by Steven Nelson. Rivers found himself under pressure constantly, as well, throughout the first half. The Chiefs did not let the best season of Rivers’ career continue on their defense early on. The Chiefs intercepted Rivers twice and handed out four sacks on the night.

The Chiefs played this one without running back Spencer Ware, so they made up for that loss with their effort on the defensive side of the ball. The defense was strong overall, not allowing the Chargers to put anything on the board until then second quarter. If their defense can play consistently as they did in the first half, they’ll be in a solid position for the home stretch.
