The Philadelphia Eagles are facing the 11-2 Los Angeles Rams in Week 15. It’s hard enough to beat LA, but they’ll have to do it without Carson Wentz.

The Philadelphia Eagles have an incredibly tough matchup in Week 15 as they face the 11-2 Los Angeles Rams on the road. The goal to defeat the Rams is considered a tall task for most teams in the league with a healthy roster. But the news that Carson Wentz won’t play and the situation that creates for Philly makes the task nearly impossible.

Reports have been coming out that Wentz has a broken vertebrae in his back and is doubtful to play the rest of the season, but is certain to be out against the Rams. Insert Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles. We all saw how this worked last season for the Eagles. Foles took over the reins and led the Eagles to the franchise’s first Super Bowl victory.

However, the circumstances now are much different. Last season, Foles took over an Eagles team that was 10-2 and well on their way to a playoff berth. This season, the Eagles are 6-7 and will need to pull off a mini-miracle to make the playoffs.

In order to make the playoffs, a win against the Rams is crucial. Falling to 6-8 would be hard to recover from. Currently, the Eagles have almost no chance of winning the division. At this point, their hopes of seeing the playoffs are aimed at the final Wild Card spot. The Eagles are just a half game behind the Minnesota Vikings who are currently in the final Wildcard position.

There is a feeling of déja vu this week as it was the game in L.A. against the Rams last year where Wentz was injured and Foles was inserted as the starting quarterback. In that game, the Eagles were able to beat the Ram,s 43-35, in one of the most exciting regular season games all year.

At this point in this year, though, many people aren’t expecting a similar result. The Eagles are currently listed as 12-point underdogs according to the oddsmakers in Las Vegas. The Eagles haven’t been a double-digit underdog since 2013 when they visited Denver to play Peyton Manning and the Broncos. In that game, the Eagles were blown off the field, 52-20.

This week will be an extremely tough game for the Eagles. A win would shock the NFL world and put the Eagles back on the playoff map. A loss would ultimately put an end to their season. Here’s to hoping this doesn’t turn into a disaster like the Week 11 loss against the Saints. We’ll have to see if Nick Foles has any more magic left up his sleeve.
