George Kittle will have under 40 receiving yards

In case you’ve been living under a rock, 49ers tight end George Kittle put up 210 receiving yards on seven receptions last week. The second-year pro and former fifth-round pick out of Iowa is averaging 84.8 receiving yards per game this season, which is more than any of the players on the Seahawks. That puts him at 1,103 receiving yards on the season to go along with his 69 receptions and four receiving touchdowns.

The only tight end with more receiving yards this season than Kittle is Travis Kelce with 1,220. And Kelce plays in an offense that is run by MVP candidate Patrick Mahomes and also features Tyreek Hill. Kittle’s quarterbacks this season have been Jimmy Garoppolo, C.J. Beathard, and Mullens and no wide receiver on the team has over 400 receiving yards. Kittle has done quite a lot with far less than most of the other top tight ends in the league.

Kittle did manage to gain 70 receiving yards on six receptions the last time these two teams met, but I don’t expect a repeat performance. The Seahawks will find a way to slow him down. Seattle held former Pro Bowl tight end Kyle Rudolph to just two receptions and seven yards on Monday.

In Week 12, Greg Olsen was held to two receptions for 11 yards. In Week 11, the defense gave up just one reception for 13 yards to Jimmy Graham. Earlier in the year, the Seahawks held Jared Cook to two catches and just 10 yards. Do you see the picture? The Seahawks tend to hold opposing tight ends to low yardage and catch totals.

After giving up 70 to Kittle last time, I think the Seahawks will find an answer for San Francisco’s biggest offensive threat.
