The Washington Redskins offense has looked worse and worse as injuries pile up. Josh Doctson will still be a factor, however, as he continues to progress.

The Washington Redskins are down to their fourth-string quarterback in Josh Johnson. They’ve also got a make-shift offensive line in front of the signal-caller and tight end Jordan Reed is out.

With all this, it’s not hard to imagine the offense isn’t going to put up any kind of numbers. Josh Doctson has been improving though, and last week gave some proof that he could still prosper in a bad situation.

Through the first seven weeks of the season, Doctson had 11 receptions for 110 yards and no touchdowns. Since then, he’s recorded at least three catches in each game. He’s picked up 28 more receptions for 359 yards and two touchdowns. The 39 receptions on the year are already a career-high and the 469 yards are just 33 away from tying his career-best.

Last week, Doctson managed four receptions for a season-high 84 yards, despite having Mark Sanchez and Johnson as his two quarterbacks. Most importantly, three catches and 74 yards came with Johnson (who’s starting in Week 15) at quarterback.

Now, the matchup will be tougher against the Jacksonville Jaguars’ fantastic secondary than it was against the Giants. That being said, Doctson is the lone true deep threat on the Redskins. If — and when — Washington decides it needs a big play, he’ll more than likely be the target. He’s also proven more adept at catching quick passes than he’s been in the past.

With drops becoming less of a problem for Doctson, he’s been given steady targets as his quarterbacks appear to trust him.

The Redskins offense isn’t in the best place right now. That being said, Doctson will still be a factor. He’s the only true deep-threat, and has come into his own as a possession receiver lately. Doctson’s also looked strong after the catch and with Reed out might be the most menacing threat in the air for Washington. With that in mind, his number should be called plenty, leading to solid production.
