Despite signing Kirk Cousins to a fully guaranteed contract this offseason, the Minnesota Vikings don’t appear to be Super Bowl contenders. Instead, they just fired their offensive coordinator and cling to playoff chances entering Week 15. They, however, face a team in the Miami Dolphins that is also fighting for a Wild Card spot, meaning the stakes will be high at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday.
As stated, the Vikings fired John DeFilippo earlier this week in hopes to revitalize their offense. Having said that, the issues may never have been with the scheme. Minnesota’s offensive line has been troublesome, thus limiting the effectiveness of Cousins and his weapons like Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, as well as Dalvin Cook in the run game.
To make matters worse, they come into this matchup against a Dolphins team that is riding high off the Miami Miracle that saw them upend the Patriots. Ryan Tannehill and this Miami team are far from perfect. Yet, with Adam Gase galvanizing the charge, they’ve proven to be a group that can compete with anyone. Thus, the Vikes must be on the ready.
What may be the biggest factor is the Vikings defense. Though talented, they’ve been a bit up and down throughout this season. They’ll need to be the former in facing the Dolphins, though, if they want to keep their chances of reaching the playoffs from completely disappearing.
