New York Jets: Road to landing Nick Bosa
The New York Jets are in position to move up to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. What needs to happen for Nick Bosa to land in the Big Apple?
Imagine two years in a row, things going right for the New York Jets in the NFL Draft. Well, that could happen if things fall the way the fans want. The best player in the 2019 NFL Draft, Ohio State edge rusher Nick Bosa, is up for grabs in the final two weeks, and Jets fans are salivating and rooting for them to lose.
Tank is the wrong word, because teams don’t tank in the NFL. That would put players in harm’s way and not be a good look. However, if things fall right, then so be it.
Several things have to fall right for the Jets to end up with the No. 1 overall pick for the first time since 1996. With that said, the Jets are in prime position, because they hold tie breaker edges. So, they kind of control their own destiny.
First and foremost, the Jets need to lose against the Packers and the Patriots to even have a chance at the No. 1 overall pick. Following the loss to the Steelers, the loss to the Patriots seems much more likely due to the Patriots still playing for a bye. The Packers game is tricky due to neither team really playing for anything but pride, and that’s tough to judge.
Getting past the Raiders in the draft order may be an easier road than the 49ers. Given the playoff implications next week, and the fact that the Chargers are facing a tough opponent, a Raiders win would be doable in the next two weeks. Getting past the 49ers is much more unlikely. They have to beat the Bears or the Rams, and both scenarios are highly unlikely given the playoff implications for the 49ers opponents.
According to ESPN’s Seth Walder, the Jets have a five percent chance at the No. 1 overall seed.
Getting a pass rusher like Bosa would change things, because he not only helps the pass rush, but the coverage as well. There’s a lot for the fans of the Jets to hope for in the upcoming weeks. If the Jets do get the No. 1 overall pick, it completely changes how they attack free agency and the draft. It looks like a longshot, but It’s still a slim possibility.
