Round 4: Montre Hartage, CB, Northwestern

The Cowboys can use some help in the secondary. Finding a gem in the fourth round is possible in the 2019 NFL Draft. They need to add a cornerback with a specific skill-set, someone who does well in zone coverage but doesn’t need elite speed. Northwestern cornerback Montre Hartage fits the bill. For starters, Hartage has good length on his 6-0, 195-pound frame.

In terms of his skills, he has the ability to challenge at the line in press. However, his best asset is in zone coverage and his ability to close in on receivers. At the catch point, he does a great job breaking up passes. Moreover, he’s effective in short and flat zones, making him perfect for Rod Marinelli’s defense.

In the run game, he’s a plus defender. Overall he’s a solid tackler that utilizes power when he hits receivers. If his speed becomes a liability, he could add a few pounds and move to safety. That type of versatility makes him an even more coveted commodity.

While the Cowboys have solid players at cornerback currently with guys like Byron Jones, Anthony Brown, Chidobe Awuzie and others, they could still use further depth, especially players that fit well (or even seamlessly into their system. Hartage is a player that could fit that bill and be a fantastic pickup for them in the middle rounds.
