Fantasy Football 2018: Waiver wire targets for Week 16
By Donnie Druin
John Kelly at Arizona
2018 Stats: 2 rushing attempts, 4 yards
ESPN Ownership: 3.0 percent
The impact of John Kelly all depends on the availability of Todd Gurley. Gurley, who is considered day-to-day, is currently questionable for Sunday’s matchup in Arizona. Should Gurley opt to sit out against the Cardinals, Kelly could very well become the steal of the waivers and be the difference that wins your league.
The Cardinals currently rank 30th in rushing defense, allowing nearly 145 yards per game and the most rushing touchdowns in the league (20). With the Rams touting one of the league’s best rushing attacks along with one of the brightest offensive minds in the game today, things could potentially get ugly with or without Gurley’s presence. Even if Gurley is healthy, the Rams may choose to limit him.
With Kelly’s lack of playing time this season, Gurley’s injury and the overall vagueness of this situation, the potential is gravitating enough to pull me on the hype train for Kelly, even if I’m just wasting a roster spot in the last week of the season.
Damien Williams at Seattle
2018 Stats: 26 attempts, 102 yards, 3 TD, 15 receptions, 115 yards, 1 TD
ESPN Ownership: 60.7 percent
I wanted to jump on the Kalen Ballage bandwagon for this week, yet splitting carries with Kenyan Drake pointed me in the direction of Chiefs running back Damien Williams. Williams has emerged thanks in part to Kansas City’s backfield falling apart due to injury and suspension, and he’s been making the most of his opportunities. Williams has amassed 47 fantasy points the previous two weeks, and will meet a middle of the road Seattle defense that allows nearly five yards per carry.
With Spencer Ware still considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury, Williams again has the green light to see another productive day in Week 16. Even if Ware is good to go, Williams has done enough to assert himself as a priority in the Chiefs gameplan. Kansas City is home to one of the league’s best offenses, and with so many weapons to choose from, Williams should be able to leave his mark for a third-straight week.
