4. Cincinnati Bengals: Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon

Another season ends before the playoffs for the Cincinnati Bengals, and this one really stings. They actually started out as one of the better teams in the AFC North before they simply fell apart. Then, Andy Dalton was lost to a hand injury and their hopes for a hot streak to end the season were dashed.

Of course, counting on Dalton to lead them hasn’t been fruitful for the past few seasons anyway. In 2016, the Bengals were 6-9-1 with him under center followed by 7-9 last season. Then in 2018, Dalton was 5-6 as a starter and had lost his last three starts before being declared out for the season.

Dalton won nine games as a rookie and then went on a tear with double-digit wins in each of the next four seasons. However, his 10-3 mark in 2015 also ended with a hand injury and he hasn’t been the same since then. Now finishing with a pick this high, they decide to move on and get a new quarterback — and they’ll probably be pairing him with a new coach.

Cincy’s struggles do at least land them the top signal-caller in the draft as Justin Herbert from Oregon makes his way to their roster. He has scouts enamored with his size, strength, and accuracy but has yet to declare. If he does, he’s the safest bet to be the best quarterback.
