2019 NFL Mock Draft: Nick Bosa heads to Raiders, Dwayne Haskins to Redskins

8. Detroit Lions: Josh Allen, EDGE, Kentucky
The Detroit Lions placed the franchise tag on Ezekiel Ansah ahead of this season as a last ditch attempt to see if they wanted to lock him up with a long-term deal. The answer to that question is likely a big no, as once again Ansah was unable to stay healthy this season.
He’s an amazing edge rusher, but as Michael Rothstein of ESPN says, he can’t shake the durability issues that have plagued him.
"“But those injuries, they just never left Ansah alone – the one protector of opposing quarterbacks the 29-year-old pass-rushing dynamo couldn’t overpower or shake. The latest one, a shoulder injury Sunday against the Cardinals, ended his season and possibly his five years with the Detroit Lions.” — Rothstein, ESPN"
With Ansah likely heading elsewhere in 2019, the Lions look for his replacement here and take Josh Allen out of Kentucky. The 260-pound Allen returned for his senior season and it only made his stock soar.
He had a career-best 14 sacks for the Wildcats, which is the same amount he had in the previous two seasons combined. He will have to work on playing with his hand in the dirt more often in Detroit, but possesses the size and skill to hold up just fine in that role.
