Washington Redskins: 3 Takeaways in Week 15 win over Jaguars
Defense was terrific
Injuries have crushed the offense in 2018. Whether it’s the quarterback, offensive line or skill positions, the Redskins have lost a number of starters and key contributors on that side of the ball. Defensively, things have been much different with only starting cornerback Quinton Dunbar missing significant time. Yet, this unit has struggled since the first part of November.
A part of the issue was communication issues between different position groups, a lack of trust between supposed defensive leaders and defensive coordinator Greg Manusky and the inability of the inside linebackers to cover anyone.
On Sunday, this defense was terrific. Kerrigan and Jonathan Allen both picked up multiple sacks and were unblockable. Daron Payne and Matt Ioannidis had strong games, while benched inside linebacker Zach Brown even got a sack. The secondary had no lapses, and cornerback Fabian Moreau’s fourth-quarter interception sealed the game for Washington.
Safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix had his best game as a Redskin since coming over at the trade deadline.
The opponent does matter and the Jaguars are absolutely dreadful on offense. However, the Redskins did what they were supposed to and dominated. That hasn’t happened in a while and it’s an encouraging sign as we enter the final two weeks of the regular season.
