Green Bay Packers: 7-Round 2019 mock draft in late December
By Randy Gurzi
Round 6: Byron Cowart, DT, Maryland
In the sixth round, the Packers start to add more depth up front with Byron Cowart, a former 5-star recruit for Auburn that transferred to Maryland for the 2018 season. He never made his mark with the Tigers but has been solid for the Terps.
The 290-pound defensive tackle has 38 tackles and three sacks — as well as two interceptions this season for Maryland. There’s a lot of potential there, but the production leads to him being a late-round pick.
Round 6, Pick 2: Jarrell Owens, DE, Oklahoma State
With the pick they got from Seattle in the Brett Hundley deal, the Packers add another edge rusher. This time, it’s Jarrell Owens from Oklahoma State. He was a backup for three seasons before recording 29 tackles and six sacks in his senior season.
He could find a role as a rotational pass rusher, which the Packers won’t be able to get enough of in the offseason.
Round 7: Joe Giles-Harris, LB, Duke
With their final pick in this 2019 Mock Draft, Green Bay adds Joe Giles-Harris. Playing for a basketball school in Duke means he didn’t receive a lot of attention, but he’s been all over the field for the Blue Devils. Giles-Harris had more than 100 tackles in both 2016 and 2017. He would have gone for three in a row had a knee injury not forced him out of a few games this season.
