The final week of the regular season is here, and all the Seattle Seahawks need to do to secure the fifth seed in the AFC is win against the Arizona Cardinals.

It only felt like a few weeks ago that we were cheering the arrival of the NFL regular season. Now we’re preparing to enter the final weekend of regular season football in 2018. This season has been marked by many accomplishments and surprises, and the Seattle Seahawks should feel good about what they’ve managed to do so far.

The team was supposed to be entering a rebuilding season and many writers gave them no chance to make the postseason. Now the Seahawks are on the cusp of securing the fifth seed in the NFC.

Seattle will be at home facing off against their division foes, the Arizona Cardinals, in Week 17. The Cardinals are currently just 3-12 and shouldn’t provide too much of a test for the Seahawks who are 9-6. Then again, I thought the Seahawks would win their Week 15 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers, but they found a way to lose that one.

This game, while not inherently challenging, is still important. The Minnesota Vikings are right behind the Seahawks in the standings with an 8-6-1 record and could steal the fifth seed if they win and Seattle loses.

This year has been a great victory for the Seahawks, even if they didn’t win the division and aren’t strong Super Bowl contenders. After parting ways with Cliff Avril, Jimmy Graham, Luke Willson, Michael Bennett, Paul Richardson, Richard Sherman, and Sheldon Richardson and losing Kam Chancellor, people rightfully questioned just how good Seattle would be this season.

There’s a reason why many people believe this year is head coach Pete Carroll‘s best coaching job ever. The Seahawks have overperformed in 2018 and are one game away from finishing off a strong regular season.

Here’s what you can expect from their Week 17 matchup.
