Schedule makers have been trying to put divisional games on the schedule for Week 17 to make them more entertaining games. It seems to have had the opposite effect as once again, we have what’s usually a strong rivalry game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants on the final week and it’s completely meaningless.

That’s because Dallas wrapped the title up the week prior, and it means once again they’re playing in a game that means nothing against a rival. Last season this was the case as Dallas played the Philadelphia Eagles, who already had the season wrapped up so they were resting many of their key players.

The year prior, it was reversed as Dallas had the NFC East, and rested players against those same Eagles. This season, Dallas claims they’re playing to win, but the fact is, nothing is on the line. They may come out full-strength, but they could end up putting their stars on the sideline after a few series, much like a preseason game.

New York is also playing for nothing. They enter the week with a record of 5-10 and gain — or lose — nothing but draft positioning after this week. Even so, the NFC East matches are always interesting and Dallas could earn bragging rights by sweeping the Giants with a win. Details for Sunday’s game are below:

New York would love to keep Dallas from gaining their 10th win this season, so if anything they could be playing for that. For Dallas, they could stand to enter the postseason on a high note, rather than playing rusty as they did following their 13 win season in 2016.
