The Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills will have nothing to play for but draft positioning as they face off in Week 17, but that still leaves stakes.
The Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills have nothing to play for in Week 17. That’s not exactly an exciting way to lead into this game, but it’s the truth of the situation as we head into the final Sunday of the regular season. However, for two teams that need help moving forward, the biggest takeaway from their matchup at New Era Field will be their draft positioning.
In the 2018 draft, the Bills made the move up into the top 10 to take quarterback Josh Allen. While the rookie’s passing accuracy and acumen remain in question, he’s been a far more effective player in his first season than many expected, largely because of his ability to take off and run. That’s been a game-changer for an offense with little to no weapons and a horrid offensive line.
As for the Dolphins, there are pieces to like, but Adam Gase’s team just looks loss. Ryan Tannehill probably isn’t the long-term answer at quarterback and there are questions at skill positions as they lack a big-time playmaker that shows up with consistency. As for the defense, they’ve been an up-and-down unit all season.
Again, these Dolphins and Bills aren’t completely hopeless, unless you’re talking about playoff chances. Even still, we’re looking at a battle for the future in regards to how it affects the draft position.

The Bills and Dolphins are surely not going to be tanking this game as it’s two AFC East rivals going toe-to-toe. However, when you get down to it, losing would be best for both teams. They need to retool and rework their rosters and the draft is the best way to make that happen.
