2. Pete Carmichael, Offensive Coordinator, New Orleans Saints

Prior to 2006, the New Orleans Saints were known as the “a’ints.” They had six playoff appearance in their entire history. Since the arrival of Pete Carmichael as the quarterbacks coach — and by 2009 the offensive coordinator — Drew Brees, and Sean Payton, things have changed in New Orleans. They are now an offensive juggernaut, and it’s largely due to Carmichael. They have also made the playoffs more times since their arrival together than they did beforehand.

Before arriving in New Orleans, there were some questions about the health of Brees. He was also a slightly above average quarterback with a lot of potential, if he could stay healthy. Not only has Brees stayed healthy, but Carmichael has helped unlock that potential and helped Brees become one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

Since becoming the quarterbacks coach of the Saints, Brees has had six of the top 20 seasons in completion percentage in NFL history, and he’s the only quarterback in NFL history to have more than one season of at least 70 percent (five times, including 2018). Brees is also the only quarterback (to this point) who has multiple seasons with at least 40 touchdown passes.

All in all, the resume stacks up, and he deserves his shot at being the 19th head coach in franchise history.
