2019 NFL Mock Draft: Dwayne Haskins lands in the Big Apple
By Randy Gurzi
10. Carolina Panthers: Greg Little, OT, Ole Miss
This season, Cam Newton was banged up for the Carolina Panthers, and as a result, they once again will miss the playoffs. This comes one year after they made the postseason, and it continues an up-and-down trend that they have maintained since their inception in 1995.
Carolina has never put up back-to-back winning seasons, but this one hurts the most. That’s because they followed up an 11-5 campaign with a 6-2 start, only to completely fall apart. Once major players in the NFC South, Carolina is now 6-9 and will sit Newton for the final game of the year.
In order to try and finally get multiple winning seasons in a row, they have to keep Newton healthy. While he’s always going to be a mobile quarterback, a better offensive line could, at least, limit the hits he takes on his dropbacks. As of now, there’s no one on the offensive line performing very well as Taylor Moton is the only player graded higher than a 64.3 — Moton currently has a 77.5 grade at right tackle.
He should be fine there, but the Panthers need a left tackle desperately — and Matt Kalil wasn’t that guy even before his knee injury sent him to the IR.
The Panthers finally shore up the position with the selection of Greg Little from Ole Miss. He’s a massive player who will start immediately and can open up the run game while also keeping edge rushers off Newton.
