The New Orleans Saints will have a walkthrough against the Cam Newton-less Carolina Panthers in a Week 17 showdown out of the NFC South.

Coming into Week 17, the New Orleans Saints have nothing to play for. With very few things settled in regards to playoff seeding, the team from the Big Easy already has the top seed in the NFC locked up. Thus, they will welcome the Carolina Panthers to town with little to play for and, as such, they won’t be unleashing their full arsenal of weapons on Sunday in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

For the Saints, Drew Brees will be resting in Week 17, which means that Teddy Bridgewater will get the start to cap off the regular season. Bridgewater still gives New Orleans a chance to win, especially if he can perform at the level he did during the preseason while with the Jets. It’s unknown how many weapons will play for the Saints, but maybe some should.

In recent weeks for the Saints, the defense has bailed out the offense, a stark change from early in the year. Whether it be Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas or Brees himself, the offense has taken a step back in recent weeks, which is somewhat concerning as they already have a bye facing them in the first round of the playoffs.

Regardless, the Panthers limp into this matchup in a bad way. Cam Newton is out and Austin Allen is starting at quarterback for Carolina. When you take that and also factor in the fact that this team has all-out collapsed to end the season, things are going to be ugly.

With Bridgewater starting, it’s clear that the Saints won’t be throwing everything they have at the Panthers on Sunday afternoon. Having said that, it might not be shocking to see skill-position guys play some for New Orleans as they try to get into a rhythm heading into the playoffs as they could use that on offense.
