San Francisco 49ers: 7-Round 2019 mock draft after Week 17
By Randy Gurzi
The San Francisco 49ers look to build their roster around Jimmy Garoppolo, who should return healthy and ready to compete in 2019 after an ACL injury
A torn ACL suffered by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 3 ended the chances for the San Francisco 49ers in 2018 who were a favorite pick of many media members heading into the season. Before he went down with the injury, running back Jerick McKinnon also suffered a torn ACL before he ever got to take a snap with the team in the regular season.
That meant their prized free agent pickup and their franchise quarterback were lost to a devastating injury. Overcoming injuries like this to key positions is never an easy thing to do and the 49ers were unable to have success without them.
They finished third in their division with a mark of 4-12, but only because the worst record in the NFL was owned by the Arizona Cardinals who are in the same division. This means once again, the 49ers will be drafting high. Fortunately for them, they believe they have the most important piece in place and will only need to add pieces around Jimmy G in order to have success.
That’s easier said than done because the 49ers have a lot of holes. They didn’t lose 12 games simply because Garoppolo and McKinnon were gone. They lost because there’s a lack of talent on both sides of the ball.
Here we look to do our best to fill the holes and make San Francisco a contender with this seven-round, 2019 NFL Mock Draft.
