Avery Williamson

When the Jets let David Harris go, there was a lot of hoopla over how they let him go rather than the fact that they let him go. He ended up in New England and almost capped off his career with an elusive Super Bowl ring.

The Jets sign Demario Davis last season, but they were unable to retain him in free agency. So, they needed someone to pair alongside Darron Lee in the middle of the defense. Enter Williamson.

In his first season in New York, he did it all. He had an interception, was fifth on the team in passes defended (6), had two forced fumbles, six tackles for loss, and 121 total tackles. The presence and tutelage of Williamson also seemed to bolster the performance of Darron Lee, who, coming into the 2018 season, needed to prove himself being a first round pick, and he did.

Williamson has proven to be very workman like in the middle of that Jets defense, and they have found their replacement for Harris. They must re-sign him to keep up the middle of that defense. Without him, Darron Lee may slide backward to where he has been in the past, and they can’t afford that.
