Henry Anderson

Mike Maccagnan is still the gerenal manager of the New York Jets for 2019, the final year of his contract. His record as GM is below average at best. However, he likely kept his job on the strength of two major moves from 2018.

The first is of course trading up and landing the quarterback of the future, Sam Darnold. The second was signing free agent defensive lineman Henry Anderson.

Signing Anderson was a low-risk, high-reward move for Maccagnan, and it paid off in spades. He got much more than anyone expected out of Anderson after some sub-par seasons in which he never played in 16 games and two stints on injured reserve.

This season, though, he proved to be more than the Jets could even ask for. Leonard Williams has proven to be underwhelming, considering where he was drafted, but Anderson seems to fit the bill of what the Jets need from that position. His seven sacks led the Jets, and his 48 pressures (as per Pro Football Focus – subscription required) was second on the team. Anderson will only be 28 years old next season. So he can be a key building block for the future of the defense. They must re-sign him to a long-term deal before anyone can even sniff negotiating with him.
