4. They suddenly have receiving threats

When Dallas made a trade just before their bye week to add Amari Cooper, it seemed like a desperation move on their part. The Oakland Raiders receiver had seemed to be on the decline from what he showed early in his career, but Dallas still felt it was worth a first round pick to secure his services.

However, we quickly realized they saw something special in him. Cooper had a great stretch for the Cowboys and had 53 receptions for 725 yards with six touchdowns in his nine games with Dallas. That kind of production was missing from their offense and it actually opened things up for everyone else as well.

With defenses focused more on Cooper, players like Cole Beasley, Michael Gallup and Ezekiel Elliott all took a step forward. Then as the season wrapped up, we even saw the tight ends get in on the action — the most notable being Blake Jarwin.

In Week 17 against the Giants, the young tight end had seven receptions for 119 yards and three touchdowns — the first three of his career. With so many players finally involved in the offense, the passing attack can actually cause a problem for defenses.

It will never be confused for the type of offense a team like the Kansas City Chiefs can run, but just keeping defenses honest can be enough for a team like Dallas that leans so heavily on the running game.
