Pete Carroll

A good coach can win with a good team. A great coach can transform a good team into a great one. Carroll is definitely the latter. He has a .622 winning percentage and two Super Bowl appearances with the Seahawks. He knows how to build up a team and compete with the other best teams and coaches in the league. Leading up to this postseason a lot of emphases has been placed on Carroll’s level of experience, and rightfully so, but he brings more to the table than just experience.

Carroll may be 67, which makes him the oldest head coach in the league, but he’s full of energy and enthusiasm. If I didn’t regularly look at coach profiles, I wouldn’t have even guessed he was in his 60s. He jumps and runs around on the sideline so much. I think he’s the perfect coach for a team like Seattle that has a lot of young, developing talent. He has the personality and mindset to get players going and ready for big games.

Then there’s the experience factor. I’ve already mentioned Carroll’s Super Bowl appearances, but he has plenty of experience playing in Wild Card Weekend too. Everyone remembers when the 7-9 Seahawks (fourth seed) beat the reigning champion Saints (11-5 and the fifth seed) back in the Wild Card round of the 2010 season. In 2012 the Seahawks were the fifth seed and won in the Wild Card round as well.

Then in 2015, the Seahawks were the sixth seed, but still beat the Vikings in the opening round. My whole point is that Carroll has led this team through the first week of the postseason multiple times. He knows how to handle this week, and the team can start building momentum with a win against the Cowboys on Saturday.
