Colts vs. Texans highlights: Andrew Luck, Indy dominate Wild Card Round
The Indianapolis Colts were the lower seed against the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round, but you’d never know that by watching Saturday’s game.
When the Indianapolis Colts went on the road to face the Houston Texans in Week 14, they were looking to ultimately prove themselves. While they were fighting for their playoff lives with a 6-6 record at that point, they seemed to be surging and ready to make a run if they made it into the postseason. Subsequently, they did prove themselves in ending Houston’s nine-game winning streak.
On Saturday afternoon in the first Wild Card Round matchup of the 2019 NFL Playoffs, Frank Reich, Andrew Luck and the Colts proved that they are just the better team than the Texans at this moment.
Luck and the Colts offense wasted no time making a statement on Saturday afternoon. Targeting TY Hilton early in often on the first drive, Indianapolis’ offense marched down the field and took a 7-0 lead with a Luck pass to Eric Ebron. After the defense stifled Deshaun Watson and the Texans, Luck and running back Marlon Mack started working again, this time with Mack getting the score.
Indy wasn’t done pouring it on then. Though their run at perfecting in the first half was interrupted when the two teams traded interceptions, Luck went out and scored another touchdown in the first 30 minutes of play with a pass to Dontrelle Inman.
Ultimately, that proved to be all that it took to get the job done. The Texans nor the Colts had nothing going offensively in the third quarter and, though Houston put together some drives in the final frame, a turnover on downs trailing 21-7 late in the game and then a few Mack runs to burn clock ultimately ended Houston’s season and sent Indianapolis advancing to the next round.
